Kansas City Trip

I like top 10 lists. I asked Dylan what I should write a top 10 list about and he said I should write one about my favorite paintings, so here it goes....

My Top 10 Favorite Paintings:

10. Wheat Field with Cypresses - Vincent Van Gogh

I think the sky looks so cool! It just looks like a very peaceful field. I also really like the colors in this painting.

9. Cats In Bag Bags In River - Christopher Wool

I saw this one in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and I thought it was hilarious.

8. Cafe at Night - Vincent Van Gogh
Again with the colors. Amazing.

7. American Gothic - Grant Wood

We learned about this painting in art class in elementary school. We had to make our own American Gothic and I made mine with Fred and Wilma Flintstone.

6. Starry Night Over the Rhone - Vincent Van Gogh

Isn't this beautiful? I think it is gorgeous. The stars are beautiful and the reflection in the water is pretty too.

5. Campbell's Soup Can - Andy Warhol

I'm pretty sure Andy Warhol was a nut but he was a prominent figure in the pop art movement. I think pop art is pretty neat. Also thanks to Wikipedia I just learned that he coined the expression "15 minutes of fame." I thought that was pretty interesting.

4. Nighthawks - Edward Hopper

This was another painting I learned about in elementary school. I remember my art teacher telling us about the Great Depression since this was painted shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

3. Water Lilies - Claude Monet

Again, beautiful colors.

2. A Sunday on La Grande Jatte - Georges-Pierre Seurat

Some things that amaze me about this painting are:
1. It is made of little dots! It is an example of pointillism.
2. It is approximately 6 feet 10 inches by 10 feet 1 inch. WOW!
3. Mr. Seurat spent about two years painting it.

1. Starry Night - Vincent Van Gogh

I really like this painting. I think it was the main reason why we went to the MOMA while we were in New York. It was really neat to see this painting in person. I always thought it was beautiful but when the actual painting was right in front of me I remember just being in awe of its beauty. I also have a copy of this hanging on the wall in my room.

So after writing this I have decided that all of my art knowledge comes from my elementary school art class or the game Masterpiece.

It's also evident that I am a big Van Gogh fan. I wrote a biography about him Junior year but don't worry, even after learning all about his crazy life I still enjoy his art. He was a talented man.
