2011 List: Albuquerque International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta!

10.10.2011
Ever since I first heard about the Hot Air Balloon Festival, I knew that I wanted to go.  I put it on our list (our list of things we want to do this year) and hoped that we'd be able to do it.  Albuquerque is a little far away from Provo so I knew it might be tough, but we did it! and I'm so glad we did!

On Friday morning we hopped in the car and headed down to Albuquerque!  On the way down we stopped in Monticello for a look at the temple there.  We had a wonderful time.  While in Albuquerque, we were able to meet up with some old friends, go to the Albuquerque temple, and see hundreds of hot air balloons.  Seriously hundreds (we heard somewhere around 900 balloons).

Saturday morning we woke up at 4:40 and got in line with all of the other traffic to head to see the balloons. It was dark and cold but we were excited.  We made sure to bundle up because it was FREEZING!  We weren't very tempted by the Indian Fry Bread, Steak, or Corndogs at 5am, but some people were....  As it got lighter more balloons started inflating.  It was almost overwhelming how many balloons were all around you.  It was amazing!

There were some balloons that were not your typical round balloon shape.  There were bees, and a butterfly, a house, a stage coach, a cow, spider pig, a regular pig, a shark, a skunk, aliens, bears ...the list goes on and on.

After the morning session of the Balloon Fiesta we headed back to the hotel to clean up. Then we had the chance to go to the Albuquerque temple. It was SO beautiful.

Friday night we went to dinner at Sadie's with Hannah and Benji (Benji and Jordan used to work together).  We had a long day but feel like we got to experience a lot of what Albuquerque has to offer!

Check back tomorrow to see pictures of our stop in Moab on the way home.
