Trip Around the World

Sometimes, on Friday mornings, because you wish you weren't at work, and because you love to travel, you have to plan a trip around the world...just to see how much the airfare would cost, so you can start saving for your dream.

And sometimes you try to imagine what it's like in Casablanca or Fiji. And someday when I have $16,634 Jordan and I will buy our tickets, pack our bags and leave for a while to see the world.

//If you want a really good laugh, please watch this or this.  I was laughing so hard my stomach was aching.

//Also, I would like to get my hands on some of these. Purely for decoration, not for practical use of course.

//I am loving this simple Easter craft, which I just might have to make this weekend.

//And last but not least, nothing has ever made me want to go camping more than this.

Happy Weekend!  Any exciting plans for you?

Package Re-Design

This is my most recent project for my Graphic Design class.

I wanted to create a simple, elegant package design for a product I love but whose packaging I do not: Bic Pens. I tried to use the key/ important words I noticed from my packaging research to create the design. Some of the key words I noticed in my research were “easy glide,” “soft feel,” and “writes smooth.” I tried to make a smooth, easy, soft package design. The lines around the edges are all rounded, creating a smooth texture. I tried to keep the design simple because I thought that the current packaging was very busy and crowded. I used a serif font because I wanted it to appear more elegant, and I think the serif goes along with the feather pen icon on the right side. Instead of labeling the color of the pen, I thought that the color of the box and the color of the design could tell the customer instead. I also like that the actual package can be used to store the pens, not just some cardboard or plastic to throw away.

Recent Paintings

I had so much fun with these two paintings.  I think they are both so Summery and fun.  I love how they turned out. And ok I just have to say that I love my new yellow table.  Don't you think it adds a little element of fun to this picture?  I love it!  Check out my etsy shop and use the coupon code SPRING for 20% off.

Spring Training 2012

Jordan and I, as well as Jordan's brother Austan, ventured down to the land of palm trees and scorpions this weekend to spend some time with my family watching baseball.  We left Thursday after school and drove all night, getting to my Aunt Pam's house at 3:30am!  We drove back yesterday, at almost the same time, we left Arizona at 4:30 and got home at 2:30am.  Jordan is an amazing nighttime driver!

Our weekend was full of sleeping in, relaxing, and wonderful time with my family, not to mention some lovely time by the pool.  Oh and there was some baseball too!  Here are the games we went to:

Angels @ Indians (Goodyear Ballpark)
Giants @ Reds (Goodyear Ballpark)
Reds @ Rockies (Salt River Fields at Talking Stick)

We also saw The Hunger Games while we were there, and perhaps my favorite part of the trip, we had dinner at Zinburger!  Delicious!  I'm talking about Creme Brulee Milkshakes here...does it get better than that?  Maybe. Perhaps the chocolate covered cheesecake and strawberries at the Rockies game were better.  I can't decide both were delicious....

It was a great weekend getaway!

More Spring Training: 2011, (I missed 2010 because I was in Jerusalem), and our very first trip 2009

10 Current Thoughts

1.  I went to observe a classroom today at Alta High School and my ride texted me 17 minutes before I thought they would and said, "I'm here." Needless to say, I was not ready.  Are morning minutes crucial to anyone else?

2.  BYU + NO Spring Break = Trip to Arizona this weekend! I hope there is more sunshine in Arizona than in California last weekend. And I hope that I get a little more relaxing time this weekend.  (pictures from Arizona last year here)

3.  I realized that I never mentioned how my speech went 2 weeks ago. Well, it went great! And afterward, I got to have lunch with President Eyring (and about 100 other people, but still!), it was a great experience!

4.  And want to know why my speech went so well? Because I practiced for 35 hours.  I counted. 35 hours of practice for a 15 minute presentation.  From this experience I need to learn that preparation really helps calm the nerves and definitely yeilds great success.  It felt so good walking up on that stage and knowing that I was 100% prepared.  I don't think I have every approached an exam like that.  I should start studying earlier, start everything earlier so I can feel this prepared in all that I do.

5.  I can't believe that my husband is going to be a college graduate in 29 days!  and he has no signs of Senioritous!  Amazing.  He is such a hard worker and studier.

6.  In September of 2010, I chopped 10 inches of my hair off.  I loved the short hair for about 2 months, then I wanted my long hair back.  I think this is how I always feel after a large haircut.  I don't understand why I always want to cut my hair short, if I know I will miss my long hair...It doesn't make any sense. After I cut my hair last time I told Jordan never to let me cut my hair shorter than it takes me to grow it back in 1 year. But now I see all of these girls with cute, short, summery cuts and I want to run to the nearest salon and get mine cut too.

7.  The time of year has approached where you don't know if you should wear your coat when you leave the house or not.  In the morning, you freeze if you don't bring it and in the afternoon you either burn up or have to lug it around with you. Silly weather.

8.  I read this article last week and found it really interesting.  It is about managing time.  Freshman year, I kept track of everything I did during a day, and it really helped me manage my time.  I haven't done it in a long time and I think it's about time to start it up again. I need to increase my productivity/ change my priorities to get more important things done in a day, and reduce the amount of not important things.  Next time some one asks you to do something you don't want to do, or probably wont end up doing, say, "I'm sorry, that's not a priority" instead of "I'm sorry, I don't have time" because you probably do have time you just don't know it.

9.  Because of the spinning class I have been taking, I now want to buy a road bike. And preferably before all of my biking muscles go away.

10.  I turned in a project today for my design class. The project was a package re-design.  I did mine on Bic Pens.  I love how they turned out.  I will have to post pictures of them soon.

Our First Place Video

Well, here is our 1st place video from the conference I went to in Long Beach.  For a 24 hour project, I think it turned out amazing. Enjoy.

Long Beach, California

I had a great time in Long Beach this past week.  I went there for a Conference with my major.  We participated in 5 competitions and won 1st place in 4 out of the 5.  Basically BYU dominated.  I worked on the Communications competition; we made a Public Service Announcement for a YMCA in Long Beach, and along with that, a poster.  We worked really hard and it turned out great!  And we won 1st place!

The weather wasn't too great while we were there, which was the only bad part.  It rained and was cloudy/foggy the most of the time we were there. We went to Knott's Berry Farm on Friday and it was really cloudy.  It ended up being good thought because then the park wasn't super crowded. And at least it didn't rain while we were at the park. This trip was a great little break from real classes.  I had a great time and I'm so glad I went!

I just had to throw this picture in here because this is what happens when you go to a Technology Conference.  This was while we were editing our video, working on the poster, and writing up our justifications.  There were so many computers/iPads/phones...etc.  I thought it was funny!

Now back to the grind.

Baby Gabey

I got to hang out with my little 2 week old friend today. We had a great time lounging and relaxing, and boy did it make us tired! I just love him.

Tomorrow I'm headed to California!  Be back on Saturday!

Clicks - Ice Fishing

Yesterday I went ice fishing for the first time ever.  I'm not really a big fish girl, I don't eat fish, but I don't mind fishing.  I had a fun time, but I do have to admit that my favorite part of the day was when we went to Dairy Keen after the fishing.  It sure was too bad that the fish weren't hungry at all.  It was much warmer than we were anticipating.  It felt like Summer out there on the ice.  And I'm pretty sure we all sunburned our faces.  I'm not sure which was more terrifying, hearing the ice crack even though it was like 18" thick (it sounded like a low pitched "popping" ) or how afraid I was of stepping in an old hole.  It was crazy to think that I was sitting top of a huge lake.  Moral of the story: Fun was had by all.

// 2010 on the left // 2011 on the right //

I'm crazy.  I've got the running itch again!  I want to sign up for another race.  AND I've even been contemplating a Full Marathon.  I can't believe it.

I'm just trying to remind myself that training last year was crazy, and that the Summer ended up being way busier than we thought.  I don't know if the full marathon will happen anytime soon, but I am almost convinced that someday I want to do it, which for me is big.  I never thought that I would want to run a full marathon.  The other issue here is that I wouldn't want to do it without my running buddy.  Jordan motivates me and pushes me. Especially when I'm tired and had a long day, he reminds me that running will be well worth our time.  The issue is that Jordan says that he will never run a full marathon!  I'll have to work on him...

I love that I can say that I have run a half marathon, and I can only imagine how awesome it would feel to be able to say that I have run a FULL marathon.  My blogging friend Torrie, is currently training for a full marathon as a way to fulfill her goal of 26 before 26.  I am adopting this goal.  I want to run a full marathon before I am 26.  I have a few years so I should definitely be able to do this.

We have run the Top of Utah Half Marathon twice, and while I do totally love this race I really want to run somewhere else.  Somewhere awesome, like Hawaii.   Maybe part of my goal could include a trip to Hawaii, or running a marathon in Hawaii...Talk about motivation.

Have you ever thought about running a marathon? Or am I just crazy?

This coming Friday...

This morning as I was walking to class, I saw a fortune, from a fortune cookie, in the grass.  I decided to pick it up to see what my fortune would be.  "This coming Friday will be an exciting time for you."

The reason why I have been so stressed lately (and the reason why I wanted to buy a new skirt), is because I'm giving a big presentation "This coming Friday."  I'm representing the Fulton College, speaking to the President's Leadership Council, or everyone who has donated at least $1,000,000 to BYU in the last five years.

I hope that this fortune means that I will do a great job on my presentation and that all of the hours and hours I have been practicing will pay off.  I hope that by the words "exciting time" Mr. Fortune means "successful time," or "accomplishment" or even "achievement."

This coming Friday will be an accomplishment for you.

I'm not a very superstitious person, but I do like that I found a fortune that has something to do with an important day in my near future.

I have spend the last few weeks working heavily in InDesign, designing our wedding book. For my Graphic Design class we had to design a book, about a topic of our choice, and since we didn't have a wedding book yet, I decided it was about time that I put ours together. I'm loving how it is turning out. Above are a few of the spreads I designed for it. It has been so much fun to be pouring over our wedding pictures and remembering that fun day.

Now that it is almost all designed I just need to figure out where to get it printed.  Do any of you have wedding books or albums?  What is your favorite part of your wedding book?

Spilled sprinkles... I took this picture when I took this picture...

Well, it is 9:45 and I just finished my school work for the week.  Actually that is a lie, because I have #1) a take home test that I need to complete before the weekend is over, as well as #2) a math assignment, and Monday I have #3) a big project due that I should probably finish this weekend as well. So actually, I guess totally disregard that last statement.

This week I only worked 14 hours at my real job, and 10 hours at my 2nd [fake] job.   At least I'm getting paid for my fake job I guess.  So, because of this I have been having the most chaotic week.  Actually weeks, because it has been like this for the last few weeks as well.

I have been waking up at 6:30 and going, going, going until at least 8pm when I would finally have a chance to sit down.  But this sitting was just the start of my homework time, which I would do until about 10:30 when I would completely drop, being incapable of continuing to work on my homework, even though I wasn't even close to finishing.

I haven't had a break for lunch in 3 weeks.  No breaks in my day at all.  This is craziness!  Oh you want me to run an errand?  Yeah right, I will never ever have time to do that.  I can't go to stores.

I'm to the point that if one thing goes wrong, I cry, or if I hear one bad bit of information, I'm done.  Usually the tears don't come until like 20 bad things have happened, but not these days.  Not this girl, she feels weak and needs a break.

Does anyone else ever feel like this?

Well if you've read this far, congratulations!  Now for the good news...

I decided to drop my minor and graduate this December.  I love the idea of graduating in 2012.  I'm so so excited about this decision, even though I've been pretty invested, in Math Ed.   I feel really happy about this. And especially LOVE the idea of finishing a bit earlier.

And I'm pretty sure that I will get to teach a Photography class in the Fall!  My [potential] mentor teacher teaches Photography 1 and Photography 2, as well as Yearbook.  Which I'm really excited about.

Here's to a good weekend!
