Thanksgiving 2012

11.26.2012
A few things I don't want to forget about Thanksgiving 2012:

Jordan enjoyed his first days of PTO and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with my family (and not going to Middle School).

We started the week by going to the Turkey Pardoning at Thanksgiving Point. My uncle works for Norbest, so we got to watch the Governor pardon a very pretty 40 pound Norbest bird.

We went to the new Outlets twice, and are loving that we have some a bit closer now.

Another exciting thing about our Thanksgiving was that my cousin, Alex, went into Anaphylactic shock 4 minutes into Thanksgiving dinner (not a highlight of Thanksgiving but still something I wanted to remember). After a speedy trip to the ER, he was doing just fine!

Jordan, Dylan, and I saw Skyfall and loved it.

Jordan and I made an offer on a house (and are keeping our fingers very tightly crossed that we get it).

Addie turned 22.

And we went to Moab!

My dad had been wanting to hike up to Mesa Arch, so Saturday night we drove down to Moab. In the morning we woke up and headed to Canyonlands. We had such a fun day. I love that Moab is so close and such a fun getaway. (Funny fact: This was Jordan's 3rd less-than-24-hour trip to Moab this year, and my 2nd). After the sunrise hike we wandered around Canyonlands for a few hours, and then headed back to town. In town we went to Wall Street and saw all of the crazy rock climbers, some Indian Petroglyphs, and then to the start of the Poison Spider trail to see the dinosaur footprints. We also walked across the bridge over the Colorado River.  It was a great little trip to end our busy week!

Re-watchable Movies

11.17.2012

Jordan doesn't really enjoy re-watching movies. If he has already seen it, even only once, he doesn't like watching it again. He likes the thrill of not knowing what is going to happen next. I am with him in that I enjoy watching new movies but I also don't mind re-watching certain movies. There are a few movies I have seen dozens of times and just don't seem to get tired of watching. I think these should be classified as favorites.

Last night we flipped on the TV and You've Got Mail was on. This started me thinking about the movies I can watch over and over. Here are some of those movies for me:

  1. You've Got Mail
  2. My Best Friend's Wedding
  3. Father of the Bride
  4. Ocean's Eleven
  5. Princess Bride
  6. The Shawshank Redemption (on TV only of course!)
  7. The Sandlot
  8. Groundhog Day
Most Disney movies also fall under this category for me. What are some of the movies you can watch over and over and never get tired of?

BYU Stats

11.14.2012
Since I blogged while I should have been working on one of my first big college papers, I think it is fitting that I blog right now, while I should be working on my last big college paper. That's right. My last ever college paper is due tomorrow. In fact, not just my last college paper, but pretty much my last college assignment ever.

While it is very exciting that I am very close to graduating, it is a little bit disappointing that I am still just as much of a procrastinator as I was 4 years ago, almost to the day. Among the many things I did learn in the last 4 years apparently, ridding myself of that habit wasn't one of them. Oh well. Maybe in the next 4 years.

I feel like I have been in college and going to school for eternity, but at the same time I feel like I haven't been in this phase of my life for very long, only 4 short years. I'm so happy that I got to go to BYU with all of the many wonderful, talented, smart (VERY smart!) people. Part of me wishes I could write a letter to everyone who did something thoughtful, meaningful, or encouraging for me in the last 4 years, but I know I would surely leave someone out accidentally (or procrastinate writing the letters, until it never happened). So in a different effort to find some sort of closure I have figured out some of MyBYU Stats.

While at BYU I have:

  • Had 12 roommates (I thought this would be higher but here they are: Tara, Chelsea, Jamie, Jordan, Kaylee, Cathryn, Rachel, Sophia, Hannah, Lindsay, Emma, and lastly and most importantly Jordan)
  • Lived in 8 different houses, apartments, or dorms
  • Been in 8 wards, 5 single wards and 3 family wards
  • Taken 69 classes (163.5 credits), my heaviest load being 16.5 credits, which I did twice
  • Taken 4, 4 credit classes, 34, 3 credit classes, 14, 2 credit classes, 4, 1 credit classes, and 12, .5 credit classes
  • Taken classes during 6 terms, and 8 semesters (and can without a doubt say that Summers are my favorite time in Provo)
  • Paid $24,594 in tuition
  • Paid the Testing Center for 10 late fees (9, $5 fees and 1, $7 fee) and only during my Freshman year (then I learned that it was a waste of money and that I usually didn't do any better than I would have taking it 1 day earlier)
  • Got 44 A's, or A-'s
  • Had to re-take 1 class where I got a D+ (and can safely say I still don't really like Linear Algebra)
  • Cried after 100% of all Chemistry tests (and 60% of all Math tests)
  • Made 39 Pandora Stations
  • Studied on every floor of the Library
  • Gone to 20 BYU football games
  • Bowled at the BYU bowling alley 5 times
  • Had 3 on-campus jobs
  • Tried out 2 majors (not at the same time)
  • Went on 1 Study Abroad (and loved every minute of it)
  • Went to 2 sessions of General Conference
  • Had 4 BYU ID cards
  • Celebrated 3 (1 more in a few weeks) birthdays, so 4 by the time I graduate
  • and met and married my 1 true love

It's been a good ride! Thanks BYU and thanks even more BYU friends. You've been great.

Snow

11.10.2012

I just threw on my sweats and boots and ventured out in to the backyard. I am loving the snow, every last bit of it. We already have 10 1/2 inches of snow and it is still coming down. I usually hate snow, but for some reason I am more than ready for a change of season. Perhaps, it's because I know that snow means December, and December means that I will be done with college (done with dang Middle School)! I can't wait.

1. Leftover from the Homecoming Parade with Devin and Claire  2. Early voting (see below)  3. The Potato Heads (see below)  4. The Jazz game (see below)

Every October seems to bring with it routine and busy-ness (like October 2010, when I didn't take even one picture to document our lives, a.k.a the month that will forever be missing from our memories). This October seemed to come and go even faster than usual. Jordan and I are still plugging along. In other words, I don't have very much to report on, other than the following:

1. I voted a few weeks ago, the second day of early voting. No line, in and out. This was my first time actually going to vote, because last time, I voted absentee. I liked it.

2. The Saturday before Halloween we went to our ward Trunk or Treat and afterward to a party with friends, dressed as The Potato Heads. We had brown short-sleeve shirts with white long sleeves underneath, with lots of accessories. Jordan even had angry eyes. I liked it and thought it was fun.

3. On actual Halloween, Jordan and I went to the Jazz Game with our friends Kevin and Megan. We had a great time! The Jazz even won, which usually doesn't happen when we go to games. Plus, Jordan's dad gave us the tickets, even better! Happy Halloween to us!

4. I accidentally started listening to Christmas Music today. It really was an accident, I promise. My radio was still on the Sunday music station this morning when I got in the car to drive to school. Apparently that station started playing Christmas music 5 days ago (had I known this, I might have started 5 days sooner). I'm not entirely sure how long this will last for me, because I don't want to burn out, but today it sure made me happy.

Was your October as fast as ours? (And what? We're already a week into November?)
