Nursery Project 1: Dresser

5.30.2013
I have been working on a few projects for the baby's room lately and this is one of my favorites! While my family was in town for Memorial Day, they helped us work on this one. We bought the dresser on KSL for $20, and then sanded, sanded, sanded, primed it, sanded, primed it, sanded, painted it white, sanded, and then painted 2 more coats. Finally, we added the knobs.

We're going to be using this dresser as a changing table, and the changing pad and diaper basket fit on top perfectly. I've heard lots of mixed feelings about changing tables. Lots of people say that you don't need one, but when you live in a smallish apartment, I figure it will be just as easy to take the baby into her room to change her than it would be to change her anywhere else. And it will be nice to have all of her changing stuff in one place.

The knobs are my favorite part! I got 4 of them at World Market and 4 of them at Hobby Lobby. (Apparently, I have a thing for funky knobs.)

I feel like because we just moved, and now I'm actually able to, I'm in turbo nesting mode, trying to get all sorts of projects finished before our little girl is born. I'll be blogging about the projects as I finish them, so get ready!

P.S. This is my third furniture painting project. Here are the others: my nightstand and our table.

Family Pictures

5.28.2013

I took some family pictures for Jared, Jessica, and Phoebe last night and I love how they turned out! Grandma and Grandpa came along too and were a great entertainment crew for Phoebe. They were awesome at getting her to smile! I'm so happy that it's finally summer and that everything is GREEN! I had been wanting to take some orchard family pictures for a while, so I'm glad I was finally able to (minus the fact that it sent almost all of us into full fledged allergy attacks, oops!). Are you in Utah? Want some pictures taken? Email me

Date Night: Lonestar Taqueria

5.24.2013

We've been hearing about how great Lonestar Taqueria is for months and months. Now we live within walking distance, so we decided to walk over for our date night tonight (well I waddled, Jordan walked). I think we tried the whole menu because we wanted a fair sample of most everything. We got a fish taco, a chicken taco, a carne asada burrito, and chips with their bean, cheese, and sour cream dip. Everything was SOOO good. My favorite was definitely the burrito though. I haven't had a burrito that good in a long time.

Then we headed over to Best Buy to purchase an Apple TV, and have ended our date night exploring our new toy and thoroughly loving it!

36 Weeks

5.23.2013

Updates for the week: I will be full term on Saturday! and I tested negative for Group B Strep, so I'm glad I don't have to worry about that. Other than that, nothing new!

That is all.

Bows

5.22.2013

I have a pretty huge list of stuff I need to/ want to do before this baby arrives. You know, stuff like, put away all of her clothes, set up her crib...etc. One of the smaller things on that list was to make some bows. Thanks to a few friends, I already had some really cute ones, but I still wanted to actually make some myself. Yesterday, I went to my friend Jessica's house and she taught me how to make a few different kinds. I know that this baby will come whenever she wants to come, but every time I check something off my list, I'm considering myself one step closer to being ready for her. I still want to make lots more bows, but for now I'm considering this crossed off my list!

Round 2

5.20.2013

Remember this picture? Well, here is round 2! On April 21st, cute little baby Nixon was born, so here is the update: Jessica (with 11 month old Phoebe), Laura (with 3 week old Nixon), me (35 weeks), and Elle (25 weeks).

Burley, Idaho

5.19.2013

Yesterday we took a quick trip up to Burley. One of Jordan's former roommates, Sam, recently got married and was having a reception there last night. It's about a 3 hour drive, so we hopped in the car with Matt and Lauren at about 2 and headed up to Idaho. We got there just in time for the reception to start.

We had such a fun time catching up with old friends. Devin and Claire drove down from Boise, so it was fun to spend some time with them, especially since Jordan hadn't met cute baby Ava yet. We were also able to see Jamie and Cole. I hadn't seen Jamie in so long! It was so fun to catch up. We will forever have a neat connection with Jamie and Cole, because we were roommates, who married roommates.

In fact, Devin, Jordan, Cole, and Matt all lived together when they were meeting/ dating their future wives. It's fun to think back on that time and remember everything that was going in our lives. Jordan and I were trying to figure out the last time all of us were in the same room. We think it was before I went to Jerusalem, which is crazy!

After the reception we went to Upper Crust for some dinner before we hit the road. I wish we could have stayed a little bit longer, but it sure was a fun little trip!

35 Weeks

5.16.2013

Another week down, 5 weeks to go! I can't believe how fast time is flying these days. The beginning of this pregnancy was ULTRA slow, but that is no longer the case. She's going be be here before we know it!

I've been really tired lately, and have just been letting myself sleep a lot, which has really helped. I don't sleep very well at night, but do sleep great in the morning. So lately I've been getting up with Jordan in the morning, and then after he leaves for work going back to bed for a few more hours. I think one of the reasons I've been so tired is because I've been unpacking, and trying to get us settled, which might be a bit much for me these days.

I'm now at weekly doctor's appointments. I had one yesterday. I was checked for Group B Strep, and will find out the results next week. The doctor also checked my cervix, to see if I was progressing at all and to see if the baby is head down. He told me that I'm already dilated to a 1.5 and that I'm 75% effaced. He also said that she is very much head down, in fact she's very far down. He asked me if I often feel a lot of pressure to which the answer is definitely yes. Because I'm already dilated a bit, I asked if that meant that she'd come a little bit early, but he said most likely not. He said I could be where I am now for weeks. It just depends.

My ankles still aren't swollen, but my feet are a little bit. My belly button is still very out, as you can see in the picture (and the last 4 pictures as well...). I'm pretty sure I'm a waddler now, but like I said, there is definitely a lot of pressure happening, so you can't exactly blame me.

I'm a little bit sad because even my maternity jeans don't fit me very well anymore... :( but I think I'm going to blame that on the fact that she's sitting so low (in one of my pregnancy books it said that your clothes would start fitting differently near the end, as the baby moved downward, I'm not just justifying myself here...these are some true facts). It's skirts and dresses or my yoga pants these days, which is definitely ok, because it has been BLAZING hot. SO HOT. ALL. THE. TIME. I'm so happy that I don't have to be pregnant through the entire summer. I'm not sure I would survive.

We still have a few things to do before I'm ready for her to come. I would like to buy a crib and some kind of a dresser (kind of saving the big stuff for last, oops). I have organized and re-organized all of the cute baby clothes we have, and I'm ready to put it somewhere.

Anyway, that's enough updating for today. I'm a bit bored with my pregnancy photos (because I feel like that's all I post about these days), but I just don't have anything else to post right now. Looking forward to the day when my blog will get taken over with photos of a new little someone. Until then...5 more weeks :)

Moved

5.13.2013

We moved this past weekend. Moving while 8 months pregnant, now that's fun! I'm sure I could find one of those memes that says, "I sure love moving! -Said no one ever" but I don't want to search for it right now. (I'll admit that after being at home with no internet or TV, and only boxes to unpack, I got a bit tired/ bored. I'm currently in the McD's parking lot using some free wifi!)

We have been living with Jordan's parents for the past 13 months and are so thankful that they willingly let us invade their space. We were able to pay off a lot of student loans and save a lot of money. It also allowed us to start our housing search. But today I'm sad to report that phase one of our housing search is officially over, and we were unfortunately unsuccessful. After 7 months of searching and 10 rejected offers, we decided it was time to take a little break and find ourselves an apartment, our own place where we could bring our little girl home from the hospital. We found a great little apartment with a 6 month lease, in hopes that we will have a house by October (keeping our fingers and toes crossed, rubbing our lucky rabbit feet, and wishing on every shooting star we see!).

So far we are loving it and are slowly getting unpacked. Our first night at the new place was Saturday night, and I told Jordan that I felt like we were newlyweds again, because we hadn't lived alone for so long. Here's to the next phase in not only our housing search but our life! Yipee!

Happy Mother's Day

34 Weeks

5.09.2013

I have decided to try to take a picture every week until the end. We'll see how it goes. Sometimes life gets in the way of your plans, but I will definitely try. No real pregnancy updates this week, just the photo.

Gilmore Girls

5.08.2013

This past Christmas, I received one of my favorite gifts of all time: The complete series of Gilmore Girls. And today I finished re-watching the last of the 153 episodes. Gilmore Girls is by far my favorite TV show of all time, and I think it always will be. In high school I would come home and watch Gilmore Girls on ABC Family most afternoons. That's when I really fell in love with the show. I thought I had seem all of them, but I was surprised while watching this time around that there were actually 1 or 2 episodes I hadn't seen. I really enjoyed re-watching and I'm sad that I'm already finished. I even tried to go slow but 5 months was as slow as I could possibly go. (And I almost want to start it all over again, tomorrow!)

My favorite episodes are probably the Yale years, but I also really like the episodes where they flash back to Lorelai's high school days. There are just SO many good ones. Here are a few of my favorite episodes (in no particular order):

"You Jump, I Jump, Jack" - You will quickly notice that my favorite episodes all have to do with huge productions that you really only believe can happen on TV or in movies. I LOVE when they would do things like this on the show. Seriously, jumping from scaffolding hundreds of feet high with umbrellas? and nothing goes wrong? and it's fun? Amazing.

"The Festival of Living Art" -  Again, huge production. This idea fascinates me. I want to go to a real festival of living art. Is there such a thing?

"'S Wonderful, 'S Marvelous" - Probably the coolest date known to mankind. Who wouldn't love this? A mysterious date, that starts with an old mustang, a drive to a lovely old farm where a great movie is projected onto the side of a barn? and your date brought candy and popcorn? So awesome.

"That Damn Donna Reed" - The outfit, the planning, all of it great.

"I Get a Sidekick Out of You" - I love the running between all of the wedding festivities, all for Lane and Zach, and the changing of outfits. 58 seats and 62 Koreans. Perfect.

"They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They?" - A seriously fun Stars Hallow Event, the annual Stars Hollows Dance Marathon. I love all of the outfits. I really enjoy pretty much all of Stars Hallow, and wish it was a real place.

And of course "Bon Voyage" -  I feel like this episode was wrapped up very quickly, but I will forever love the rain covering that Luke made out of tarps, tents, umbrellas...etc. for Lorelai. So romantic.

I have lots of other favorites, but these were a few of the first ones that came to my mind. Are you a Gilmore fan? What are your favorite episodes? You're not a Gilmore Girls fan? Want to borrow my DVDs?

Baby Jordina

5.06.2013

Jordina is the name that my family has lovingly been referring to our little baby girl as since we found out that she is a girl. We're still working on [real] names, but hopefully we'll nail one down soon. I'm specifically having trouble finding good middle names to match the first names I like.

I've been looking at lots of our baby pictures lately. I'm SO beyond excited to find out what our little girl will actually look like. I just want to know! I can't wait to meet her.
