One way that I try to live my religion is by reading my scriptures everyday. When I read my scriptures I find inspiration about how to be a better wife and mother, neighbor, and friend. While I read I pray that I will be able to know of the principles I need to learn and that I will be able to use and apply them in my life.
I know that as I read my scriptures I learn valuable lessons that will help me raise my children. This helps me to have peace, when I look at the world in which they are growing up in. As I read my scriptures I also learn more about my Savior Jesus Christ, and also about my relationship with my Heavenly Father.
This week I came across a quote that I loved, from an Apostle of the Lord, Dieter F. Uchtdorf. He said, "I understand that, at times, some may wonder why they attend Church meetings or why it is so important to read the scriptures regularly or pray to our Heavenly Father daily. Here is my answer: You do these things because they are part of God’s path for you. And that path will take you to your “happily ever after” destination." I read my scriptures because I know that they will help me on my journey to follow the path that my Heavenly Father has for me.
One fun thing that I've been doing lately is a scripture study text. After I read, I will text a thought from my study, what I got out of my reading that day, to two of my friends. They text me what they got out of their reading that day as well. Not only does it help to keep me accountable for my reading, but sometimes we get some great discussions going. It also forces me to really think about what I'm reading, rather than just passively turning pages. I also love hearing about how the scriptures are helping them in their life.
I read my scriptures everyday because I have found that reading my scriptures is a source of power and comfort in my life. I enjoy the quite alone time that it provides, and how it helps me to clear my mind and reenergize my soul.
