I am an avid dry shampoo user. This stuff is the greatest. Time is a valuable thing these days, and I will do almost anything to delay washing my hair. When I first discovered dry shampoo, my sophomore year of college, it changed my life! Since that great day 6 years ago, I have tried many different kinds. I'm always on the look out for the best one. In my search I have come across a wide variety, and thought I'd give you a run down on some of the brands I like.
There are four things I look for in a good dry shampoo: I want a powder spray, that doesn't turn my hair white, I want it to smell good, and of course it has to work well. So to rate the dry shampoos, I have created a 4 star rating system ★★★★. One star for how it sprays (powder or liquid), one for the color (whether or not it leaves my hair white), one for the smell (good or bad), and one for how well it works.
Let's get started!
Pssssst! Instant Dry Shampoo: This one has a powder application which I like, but it leaves my hair really white, so it isn't a very good fit for my hair color. It doesn't smell fantastic, but it does work. ★★☆☆ So 1 star for the powder application, and 1 star for the fact that it works but two empty stars for leaving my hair white, and the bad smell. I would not recommend this dry shampoo.
Herbal Essence Naked Dry Shampoo: This one comes out liquid, which I usually don't like, but this one actually works really well. It doesn't turn my hair white and I also like how it smells. ★★★☆
SG Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo: This is the first dry shampoo I ever used and even though it was life changing, it is actually my least favorite kind on this list. It comes out liquid, so much so that it sometimes makes my hair a little wet. It also smells disgusting and it doesn't work as well as any other dry shampoo I've ever used. Ha! (How's that for a review?) ☆☆☆☆
Suave Karatin Infusion Dry Shampoo: This dry shampoo comes out as a powder, but doesn't leave my hair white. It smells ok, not my favorite smell, but it works really well. ★★★☆
Suave Refresh and Revive Dry Shampoo: From the pictures you can tell I clearly bought this one on clearance at Target. I only bought it because it was a deal, but it has actually become one of my favorite ones. It is a powder, that doesn't leave my hair white, it smells good, and it works great! ★★★★
Batiste Dry Shampoo (Coconut & Exotic Tropical): My mom bought this one for me when it was on sale at Ulta a few weeks ago. Bastiste has like 12 different kinds of dry shampoo, and I've only tried 2 of them. This one, however, has become one of my favorites lately. It has a powder application, that doesn't come out white, it smells great, and it works really well! ★★★★
Batiste Dry Shampoo (Strength & Shine): Even though it is made by the same brand as the previous one, it is very different. It is also a powder, but it makes my hair white, and it doesn't smell nearly as good. ★★☆☆
TRESemmé Fresh Start Basic Care Dry Shampoo: Powder application, that doesn't leave my hair white, and works really well. I don't particularly like the smell though. ★★★☆
Pantene Pro-V Root Reboot Dry Shampoo: This isn't my favorite dry shampoo. It has a liquid application, just smells like a regular old hair product should, and it doesn't work super well as a dry shampoo. But it is good for lift, if you need some extra volume. ★☆☆☆
I have also tried the Big Sexy Hair Dry Shampoo and Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Dry Shampoo. I tried Big Sexy Hair so long ago I couldn't provide an accurate review at this time (and I was using it when I was pregnant with Reagan, so my opinion of it is very skewed, because I was so sick), and the other I haven't used enough to review it (just bought it this week).
Overall, my two favorites (at the moment) are Suave Refresh and Revive Dry Shampoo and Batiste Coconut & Exotic Tropical Dry Shampoo. If you are interested in trying dry shampoo for the first time (get ready for this life changing product!), or if you are a dry shampoo lover already and are looking to try a new kind, these are the ones I'd recommend.
As you can tell, I'm a dry shampoo lover. Do you have a favorite I haven't mentioned and need to run out and buy? Or do you have a different opinion about any of the ones mentioned above? Please share if you do!
