We try to go on a date every Friday night. Lately, we have been slacking a bit and I think it's because we've been struggling for ideas. So in an effort to resume our weekly dates I wanted to make a list of fun fall and winter date ideas. I saw an article floating around on Facebook today about how we should be enjoying the cold months of the year, not just enduring them. These are all dates we have really enjoyed in the past and would love to repeat. Let's enjoy and embrace these colder months! Oh how I wish we could do all ten of these dates again this fall and winter! I think that will be my new goal. To go along with this list I have also included a few fall and winter date night essentials (things like ChapStick, Emergen-C, and Advil Liqui-Gels). Check them out below!

1. Ski Date - Take advantage of the cold weather and hit the slopes. This has always been a really fun date for us. Even though our definitions of fun on the mountain are much different (him: snowboarding as fast as possible and going on jumps, her: slow and steady skiing, relishing in the beauty of the snow) we still always have a great time when we block off a day and go. And I have to admit that I love the one-on-one conversation time (sans babies) we get on the lift.

2. Go for a Scenic Drive - Fall colors and the changing leaves are absolutely one of the most gorgeous things this world has to offer. Why not grab some snacks and take a drive to enjoy the changing colors?

3. Catch a Flick (and Hot Chocolate after!) - Movies are a good classic date night choice. They are especially good in the winter after it gets much too cold to be outside. And try to extend the date as long as possible and splurge on some hot chocolate after. Perfection!

4. Attend a Sporting Event - Again, this is an especially good indoor idea when it's insufferably cold outside. Plus, I bet your main squeeze will love something like this for date night! Go cheer on his favorite sports team.

5. Snowshoeing - If you're not into skiing or snowboarding this is a good alternative. Although I do have to admit, that the first time I went snowshoeing I was SO out of shape and out of breath the entire time. Part of this is because we were snowshoeing up a mountain but still this is a more strenuous date idea, if you're into that kind of thing.

6. Progressive Dinner Date - I have been dying to do this again! It is seriously the funnest. You start the night off at one restaurant for appetizers, then head to a different restaurant for the main dish, and finish it off at another restaurant for dessert. (Click on the link above to see a few tips/guidelines we gave ourselves to make it a bit more fun!)

7. Attend a Holiday Concert - I think I need to turn this into a holiday necessity. What's December without a fun/festive concert? It truly gets me in the mood and fills me with holiday cheer. A wonderful date!

8. Early Morning Breakfast Date - This is one of my favorites. Sneak out of the house a little earlier than usual for a breakfast date instead of your traditional dinner date. (A big plus to this plan is that the babysitter doesn't have to worry about putting the kids to bed!)

9. The Last Hike - I love this idea. Take a hike right before it starts to really be winter, before the snow starts and doesn't stop for months. Call it "The Last Hike" or "The Last Chance Hike." Soak it all in because you wont be able to do this again for months (Unless you have snowshoes strapped to your feet and you are wearing a thick winter coat).

And finally, 10. The Last Chance Picnic

Jordan and I snuck away last weekend for a quick Last Chance Picnic (and I'm super glad we did, because it is currently halfway between raining and snowing outside). We whipped up some knock-off Swig cookies, grabbed our thermoses and filled them with hot chocolate and apple cider. This is a date we used to do ALL THE TIME before we were married. I forgot how fun it is. There's a reason why I love this husband of mine. He's so fun to be around.

And as promised here are a few of my fall and winter date night essentials:

-Emergen-C: We've been having a bit of sickness going around our house. So in an effort to have More Healthy Days, More Healthy Nights we've been using this stuff at the first sign of trouble. I hate canceling plans (especially a fun date night!) because of a little runny nose or cough.

-ChapStick Total Hydration: ChapStick is a total must especially in the winter. When the air gets cold and chilly I NEED ChapStick which instantly smoothes and moisturizes those dry and chapped lips. (VERY important for skiing and snowshoeing)

-Advil Liqui-Gels: These aren't just a fall or winter essential, these are an all the time essential. To go along with our sicknesses, on Saturday I woke up with a splitting headache. And believe me, nothing’s faster on tough pain (among OTC pain relievers) than Advil. (Use as directed)

These date night essentials can all be purchased at Walmart.

  1. You make my dating life with my husband seem so boring and unadventurous (is that a word). We definitely need to work on it. Thanks for the ideas.

  3. Wow! Just fantastic! I often fall into the "enduring" winter idea (I love the summer and the beach), so I think changing my perspective to really embrace the winter would certainly help improve some of our date night ideas! Thanks for sharing! #client
