Reagan's Broken Arm

Back in June Reagan broke her arm. We were at a park she had never been to before for a friend's birthday party. The kids were supposed to be playing at the splash pad but of course Reagan had to be playing at the park next to the splash pad instead. She was trying to cross a pretty slippery bridge that only had one skinny rope on the sides for support, which were too high for her to reach. She slipped off and fell landing right on her arm. She was inconsolable and couldn't stop crying which wasn't like her at all so we knew that something was up. I also asked her to touch my nose with the arm that she said was hurting (and was holding close to her body like it really hurt) and she couldn't lift it high enough to do it.

We were in Cottonwood Heights for the party so we went to the pediatrician's office we used to see before we moved. They have an after hours program called Kids Care and their office is connected to the hospital which we would need to visit for x-rays if her arm really was broken. It also ended up being nice that we were in that area of town because Jordan's parents came to get Naomi because we knew that this was probably going to be a long process.

The doctor knew pretty much right away that it was broken, especially since Reagan would wince every time she touched it just above the elbow. Just to confirm we did have to go next door to Alta View to get x-rays. Reagan hated getting the x-rays because she had to extend her arm all the way which I could tell really hurt her.

Finally, after lots of hours of waiting they gave her a splint which she had to wear for about a week. She was a trooper with everything right up until she had to start wearing the sling. She really hated that thing.

^^Saddest pictures ever!

A week later we went to an orthopedic doctor to get the hard cast put on. For days we had been talking about the BIG pink bandaid she was going to get. She loves pink and she loves bandaids so we hoped that talking about it like that would help prepare her. Reagan was a trooper when it came to her cast. It seemed like it didn't even bother her. She loved having people sign it and even asked for a new one when it came time to get it taken off.

^^Shinny new pink cast and a sucker for being such a good girl at the doctor.

^^It's really hard to tell from the angle of this x-ray but the break was just above the elbow. You can see it's broken on the right side of the bone above the elbow where it is no longer smooth near the bottom.

After 3 weeks with the hard cast we went back to the orthopedic doctor and they took her cast off, she got some new x-rays which showed new bone growth and the doctor gave us the O.K. that we were on the path to recovery and didn't need another cast. After the cast came off she immediately asked if she could have a new green one and then proceeded to try to put the pink one back on. She's silly!

It was a bummer to have this cast right in the middle of summer but we did ok avoiding all water activities for a month and have since resumed summer at full force. This little girl is a trooper. She was pretty much a broken bone waiting to happen with how energetic she plays corresponding with how clumsy she is. Hopefully that is something she will grow out of. This fall has made her a lot more cautious as well as terrified of heights (even getting on an elevator is scary to her now). I'm curious to see how long these new developments last, if they're temporary or permanent and HOPEFULLY we can be done forever with broken bones.

Strawberry and Honey Bunches of Oats Smoothie

We're huge smoothie fans over here. I think my girls could have a smoothie for breakfast everyday and be totally happy about it. I love that they are tasty but also convenient and can be eaten on the go. I also love that the flavor combinations are endless. I wanted to share one of our recent favorite smoothie recipes, a delicious concoction with cereal blended right in!

1 banana
5-6 strawberries (a handful will do)
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup Honey Roasted Honey Bunches of Oats
2 cups of ice (sometimes I'll use frozen fruit and skip the ice)
Splash of water (I like thick smoothies, adjust for your desired consistency)

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until well combined.

Easy as that! I throw them in sippy cups for my messy eaters and we're out the door in no time flat! Easiest breakfast ever.

I'm sure Reagan would love this recipe with Fruity Pebbles, and I'd be willing to bet that it's just as tasty with Great Grains too! I love buying Post cereal at Walmart because it is such a good value. Especially with all of the Back to School shopping it's great to know that you can save money while feeding your family. With a huge selection of cereals Post Consumer Brands is sure to have something for every member of the family.

Are you a smoothie person? What's your favorite kind? I'm always trying new recipes so I'd love your suggestions!

Master Bedroom Reveal

I'm so excited to share pictures of our little master bedroom renovation we did a few weeks ago. One thing that really matters to me is having a home that is beautiful and a place where I love living. For two years we lived with lovely turquoise carpet in our bedroom and I had finally had enough! We have worked on lots of projects all over the house including our built-in desk and our kitchen renovation, which included replacing the flooring in our kitchen and living room as well as the stairs and Reagan's room. Our bedroom, on the other hand, had been very neglected. Our "before" bedroom wasn't awful, it just wasn't a space I loved. I wanted our bedroom to be a place I really loved where I could rest, so our mission was to create a more relaxing space.

Jordan went out of town on a business trip and I decided I needed a project to do while he was gone. So to really get the ball rolling on this bedroom redo our head board and foot board got a new coat of paint. It was pretty wood before but I wanted something lighter so I opted to paint it white. I also had my brothers come up one day and babysit the girls so I could rip out the carpet (and of course the nasty tack-strips and one million staples from the padding) and molding so when Jordan got home we were ready to start painting the walls.

It's not very often you change the floor, walls, and molding all in one shebang. It was perfect because we didn't have to worry about spilling paint on the floor or taping off the molding because it was torn out while we painted.

After the walls were painted we were ready to replace the flooring. We have gorgeous Brazilian Walnut Laminate Hardwood throughout our house. From there we redid the molding, which looks AMAZING next to the gray walls and then it was time for the fun "Extreme Makeover" part of bringing all of the furniture back into the room.

Here is a nice before picture for your viewing pleasure:

I wanted to paint our bed white, swap out the bedding, get new (matching) nightstands, rip out the carpet, paint the walls, get rid of the mirror closet doors, and build a small closet system for better shoe organization. Leading up to this project we had already purchased a new white dresser in anticipation for this bedroom makeover.

For a while I had been coveting this duvet cover from Anthropologie, but I didn't want to shell out $280, especially for a duvet, not even a comforter or blanket. I loved the mixed patterns and colors as well as the raw seams, so I decided to copy it and make my own.

Jordan helped me make a pattern and my mother-in-law's friend quilted it for me. I think it is the pièce de résistance in our bedroom. I love it!

There was something about that old paint color that was too harsh for my eyes. I think it was something about how the lights hit it or how the light came in from the window. I really hated it (the girls rooms are the same color but I don't hate it in their rooms. Their rooms are on the other side of the house and I think they get different light). This gray is so much more soothing and restful.

I found these gray nightstands on KSL (basically Utah's own version of Craigslist) for $50 each. They're bigger than either of our previous nightstands and I love the library drawer pulls. Mostly I loved that I found matching nightstands that were already the perfect color (I REALLY didn't want to paint nightstands) and they were a great price!

^^I had been loving all of the string lights I had been seeing around the blog world/social media but again I couldn't justify buying them just for fun. BUT when I saw some for sale in the cutest store in Amsterdam I justified it as a memorable souvenir and somehow we lugged them all the way back to the States without squashing any. I really love them.

^^Our new shoe storage solution. I didn't mind the mirror closet doors but I hated that the middle 40% of the closet was unreachable and therefore completely unusable. There was always a heap of shoes on the floor in a mess closed behind those doors. NO MORE!

Our room is so much calmer and more relaxing. Not only do I need this "sanctuary" after a stressful day of parenting, but especially when it's my time of the month. I really love having a place where I can close the door and rest. I just want to be comfortable and renew in a stress-free space. When I'm on my period I get really bad migraines and the only thing that fixes them is sleeping in a calm, dark space. What matters to me when it's my time of the month is having this place to rest and relax.

I love these new Style N' Store boxes from U by Kotex® and Walmart. They care about what matters to you on your period and know that you're looking for more than just leak protection in a product. Periods are personal things and the ways it affects your life does matter. Walmart can help you feel more confident and more “yourself” with all of your period care solutions. I have been loving U by Kotex® Barely There® Liners. I love their bold colors and designs. They're so comfortable I barely know it's there.

Also don't forget the SNIPP Offer which is live through 9/30/16. When you purchase 2 packs of U by Kotex® products at Walmart and text UbyKotex to 811811 and upload a photo of your receipt, you can receive rewards. Go to and register to choose your customized reward!

What matters most to you when you’re on your period? How do you create a relaxing and restful space?

Bear Lake Roommate Reunion

We spent last weekend at Bear Lake with a few of my roommates from BYU. We had been planning this weekend for almost a whole year, and all of the planning and organizing (mostly done by Cathryn) was sooo worth it. It was such a great little getaway. These girls are truly gems, with such kind hearts, awesome friends and even better wives and mothers. I'm so lucky to call them friends. We had 7 babies with us this weekend, which made it all the more fun and chaotic.

We arrived on Thursday night and stayed until Sunday morning. We rented a huge 6 bedroom cabin up on the hill overlooking the beautiful lake. Friday we rented a Jet Ski and Saturday we went to the North Beach Park. Every night we stayed up way too late talking, catching up, reminiscing, and laughing. This was technically the 5 year reunion of us living together, and it was kind of said that we'd try this every 5 years, but after we had such a great time we're thinking about trying it every 2 years instead.

^^I can't get over the color of that water. It's [almost] just as good as the water in Cancun. Gorgeous.

^^We had a great time with the Jet Ski. Pictured above is Jamie, Cole, and Taizlee. I took Reagan out on the Jet Ski and she had a little running monologue the entire time of "Wheeeee!" and "Yay Mommy!" It was the cutest. She's our little dare devil.

We were each in charge of one meal, and then we shared a quick breakfast Sunday morning before we left. It worked out perfectly and we had some really tasty meals. Our house had 3 picnic tables out on the deck so we ate all of our dinners outside, which was amazing. Great views, perfect weather, and less cleanup with the messy eater children.

Friday night I did a little royal icing sugar cookie class. I thought it was hilarious when this idea was suggested, but I was really excited to teach them some of the things I have learned in the past few years in regards to sugar cookies. They did great and we ended up with some super cute and tasty cookies.

Devin and Claire stopped by to see us on their way out of town on Friday after their own Bear Lake trip and recommended that we head to the North Beach Park because it is so good for kids. It was awesome! Seriously one of the most fun beaches I have ever visited. Reagan could walk out about 50 feet before it was too deep for her to touch.

^^Reagan sadly had her cast while we visited so we made her a crazy glove contraption so she could still play at the beach. It worked pretty well, definitely not ideal but thankfully she didn't seem to mind one bit.

^^Jamie and Cole had already left but we still wanted to snap a quick picture at the beach.

^^From left to right: Tara, Melissa, Jamie, Taizlee, Cole, Brooklyn, Caroline, Cathryn, Bruce, Baby Joe, Chelsea, Sophia, Jose, Naomi, Jordan, me, and Reagan.

Next time I hope all of the husbands can come, as well as the roommates we truly missed!

^^We saw a moose on the stunning drive home.
