Our hall bathroom has the most awkward footprint. There are strange corners everywhere and whenever I walked in there I felt like cursing the builder who designed this house back in the 70's. WHY so many corners? What's wrong with a plain old square room? The countertop, mirror, and light fixture had been changed before we bought the house and but there were still a few things I felt like we could do to spruce up the most used bathroom in the house.

Keep reading for a few tips and tricks to transform your bathroom in as little as one morning for less than $100.

Above you can see a few before pictures. It wasn't horrible but there were a few things that needed to be addressed. 1. I didn't love the dark cabinets. They looked old and outdated. 2. I hated the towel rack over the toilet and I wanted to figure out a way to hang more than one towel. 3. I wanted a little bit more storage preferably some shelves.

The first thing we did was take out the towel rack over the toilet and add shelves. This not only created a solution for one of the awkward corners in the room but provided a place to store extra towels and toilet paper.

To spruce up the cabinets I decided to paint them white. I love how much light it adds to the room and that it looks so fresh and so clean (can you say those words without thinking of this? I can't).

To go along with the fresh coat of paint I also added some new hardware to the cabinets. We've got a little Satin Nickel thing going on in this bathroom so we ran with it and added some Satin Nickel drawer pulls. (They match the ones in our kitchen!)

We've been keeping the girls' towels in their rooms because we didn't have a place to hang them in the bathroom. Often we'd already have them in the tub and realize that we'd forgot their towels which would result in an olympic sprint to their rooms to get the towels before they drown. Not ideal.

I found this awesome corner towel rack at IKEA and it perfectly solves another awkward corner problem for us and addressed the need to hang more than one towel at a time.

In just a few hours I feel like I have a totally different bathroom, and all it took was a quart of paint, some new shelves, and a new towel rack. Of course some day I'd love to replace the floor with some gorgeous tile like this and turn the tub into a shower but that's a little bit down the road.

And no bathroom is fully stocked without Quilted Northern® Ultra Soft & Strong® with Cleanstretch (9 Mega Rolls). With this I'm always ready for sudden guests or last minute get-togethers. Their Mega rolls are 4X bigger so I'm not always worried about changing the roll. I love using a trusted 100 year old brand like Quilted Northern®, which can be found at Walmart!

Do you have any quick bathroom transformation tips or ideas I missed? I'd love to hear!

  1. Cute!! I'm a sucker for white everything too.

  2. White is the best!! Did you have to sand the cabinets first? What kind of paint do you recommend? We're slowly painting everything and I want to give cabinets a try sometime soon.

  3. I had that same towel rack in my Ogden house! It's great for a small or awkward space. I loved it.
